Windows 10 End of Life in Malaysia: How to Upgrade
What the end of support means and your options
By Atif H., CEO, AME Enterprise
Microsoft ended free support for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025. The one-year extended updates programme for home users ran until 13 October 2026. Windows 10 PCs still start and run, but they no longer receive regular security updates.
What end of life means
- No new security fixes, so the PC is more exposed to malware.
- Fewer apps and drivers will support it over time.
- Banking and work tools may stop supporting old systems.
Can my PC run Windows 11?
Windows 11 needs a 64-bit processor on Microsoft’s supported list, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. Open Settings, then Windows Update. It tells you if the PC is eligible. You can also use Microsoft’s PC Health Check app.
Your options
- Upgrade to Windows 11: free on eligible Windows 10 PCs through Windows Update.
- Upgrade the hardware: some PCs only need a BIOS setting (TPM or Secure Boot) turned on, or more RAM.
- Replace the PC: if the processor is not supported, a newer PC is the safe long-term answer.

Frequently asked questions
What happens when Windows 10 reaches end of life?
The PC keeps working but receives no regular security updates, which raises the risk of malware and breaks compatibility over time.
Can Windows 10 users upgrade to Windows 11 for free?
Yes, on eligible PCs through Settings, Windows Update. The PC must meet the Windows 11 hardware requirements.
What if my processor cannot be upgraded to Windows 11?
Check whether the PC only needs TPM or Secure Boot enabled. If the processor is not supported, replacing the PC is the safest option.
Do I still need a licence for Windows 11?
An eligible Windows 10 PC with a valid licence upgrades free. A new build or a PC without Windows needs a Windows 11 key.
